A smarter way to access the Australian Standards FOR THE Outdoor Industry

The Outdoor Council of Australia is pleased to support the launch of the Outdoor Industry Standards Set — a curated digital subscription that brings together the Australian and international standards most relevant to the Outdoor Industry.

This is an important distinction. The Set is not the Australian Adventure Activity Standards.

The AAAS are industry guidance, developed to support good practice in outdoor adventurous activities. By contrast, the Outdoor Industry Standards Set provides access to a curated collection of formal Australian and international standards that may be relevant to outdoor education, outdoor recreation, nature therapy and adventure tourism businesses and organisations.

For many across the Outdoor Industry, identifying which standards may apply — and how they relate to different aspects of operations, infrastructure, equipment, governance and risk management — has often been fragmented, expensive and unclear. This new Set is designed to provide a more accessible and practical reference point by bringing those standards together in one portal.

The intent is to improve consistency, safety, compliance and professionalism across the Outdoor Industry by reducing uncertainty and helping organisations navigate the standards landscape more effectively. It supports operators, educators, regulators and insurers with easier access to the formal standards that underpin many aspects of business and operational practice.

It also helps fill a long-standing market gap. Rather than requiring organisations to search across a wide range of individual standards, the Outdoor Industry Standards Set creates a clearer pathway to access the Australian and international standards most relevant to the Outdoor Industry, while supporting stronger workforce capability, better governance, and greater industry confidence.

We are also pleased to share that OCA has secured a 10% discount for OCA members and their members. This curated set includes 35 Standards for the below price:

Public price: $721.86

OCA Member price: $649.67

Mobile App price: $131.23

In addition, OCA members can also request a 10% discount on traditional subscriptions through the Standards Australia Store and through distributors including Intertek and Accuris, as members of one of OCA’s partners.

The Outdoor Industry Standards Set appears on the Standards Australia curated subscriptions page from 8 April.

This is a practical initiative for the Outdoor Industry — not because it replaces industry guidance such as the AAAS, but because it complements that guidance by improving access to the broader body of formal Australian and international standards that industry participants may need to reference.
