The Outdoor Council of Australia (OCA), in support of Cancer Council NSW, is proud to announce the winners of the recent outdoor industry photo project, celebrating the many ways Australians connect with nature while highlighting the importance of being sun safe outdoors.
The competition, run by Cancer Council NSW, invited the outdoor industry to submit images that showcase the joy, diversity and benefits of outdoor participation across Australia. From bushwalking and paddling to camping, education, recreation and community-based outdoor experiences, the entries captured the spirit of getting more people outdoors, more often — safely.
OCA Chair, Lori Modde, said the project was a wonderful example of industry collaboration and shared purpose.
“Across outdoor recreation, education, therapy and adventure tourism, we know how powerful outdoor experiences can be for health, wellbeing, confidence and connection,” Ms Modde said.
“But as an industry that encourages people to spend time outside, we also have an important role to play in reinforcing sun safe behaviour. By supporting this Cancer Council NSW initiative, OCA is helping promote the simple but vital message that outdoor participation and sun protection must go hand in hand.”
Michele Michel, Individual Member of Outdoors NSW & ACT, was awarded first place in the photo project, with three highly commended prizes awarded to Craig Starling from Scouts Australia, Maddy Bennett from Outdoors Victoria, and Kirsty Curnow from Seek Sista.
The winners received prizes courtesy of Cancer Council NSW, acknowledging their contribution to promoting positive, active and sun safe outdoor experiences.
Ms Modde said the quality of entries reflected the strength and passion of the outdoor industry.
“We were thrilled by the range and quality of images submitted. These photos tell a powerful story about why the outdoors matters — from connection to country and community, to adventure, learning, wellbeing and fun,” she said.
“Thanks to the generosity and creativity of the industry, we now have a fabulous collection of images that can help encourage more Australians to get outdoors while reminding them to protect themselves from harmful UV exposure.”
Cancer Council continues to play a leading role in skin cancer prevention and sun safety education across Australia, including through resources, programs and practical guidance that support safer outdoor environments.
The collaboration between OCA and Cancer Council NSW reflects a shared commitment to supporting active, healthy communities while helping outdoor leaders, providers and participants embed sun safe practices into everyday outdoor activity.
OCA thanks Cancer Council NSW for its support of the project and congratulates all winners and entrants for contributing to a stronger visual story for the Outdoor Industry.

Greetings all. I usually prefer reading other people’s tech stories, but here’s mine. I found a discussion thread about dealing with burnout after intense cyber crisis games, and someone casually mentioned https://ways2well.com/peptides . Curiosity led me there later that evening, and while exploring the portal I clicked into their wellness options. I liked that the navigation didn’t feel cluttered, which made it easy to jump between different health protocols. I read through a few pages while listening to music. At first, the scientific details were a bit dry, but then the clear benefits slowly made sense until I realised I’d ended the session with a solid plan for my physical recovery.
